SHAME
The
day to day life of a droning sex addict (Michael Fassbender) is interrupted by
the unexpected visit of his sister (Carey Mulligan). The non-existent dialogue
at the start of the film is interesting, but is short lived. Fassbender plays
the aloof and emotionally detached protagonist quite aptly but that ironically
makes me care less about him. Why does this character do the things he does?
What past events can attribute to the creation of this type of flawed
individual? Unfortunately none of these questions are answered. The director
(Steve McQueen) depicts sexual addiction as a cumbersome cross to bear, similar
to most addictions. But the lack of danger and reckless excitement in the story
makes this flick as enjoyable as an outbreak of herpes.
