G. I. JOE: RETALIATION
As
plausible as this plot may seem; that of nuclear domination by a radical
terrorist organization over the other nuclear weapons wielding nations, the
methods implemented to achieve said goal is ludicrous. The supporting cast is
comprised of a few familiar faces such as Bruce Willis, Jonathan Pryce, Arnold Vosloo,
Ray Stevenson and Rza but ironically their characters are as forgettable as the
entire TWILIGHT Series. The clear standout is Dwayne Johnson, who takes the reins
from Channing Tatum. Johnson is very likeable in nearly every film he does and with
this role; he cements his position as probably the only true Action-Star in Hollywood. Similar to the cinematography of every
other film (based on a Hasbro toy line), this film also looks video-gamish and
cartoonish. Visual razzle and dazzle can only momentarily misdirect from the
nonsensical plot. In the hands of an Action-Movie Director, this film may have
turned out differently. But in the hands of Jon M. Chu, a bona fide Music Video
Director this film is a campy and at times melodramatic mess of a movie. How
does directing a bunch of dance movies suddenly qualify one to direct a
so-called Blockbuster Action Flick? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice,
shame on me! G.I. Joe 3 anybody? No Joe!!!
