HAYWIRE
The
plot is as follows, a covert operative gets double crossed by her own handler
and then decides to seek revenge on said handler and everyone involved in the
betrayal. The plot is as generic as they come; hell hath no fury like a woman
scorned only this time its set in the world of international espionage. The spy
lingo is interesting during the few times it’s used. The male actors in the
film pull off decent performances but the lead character played by amateur
actress/professional MMA fighter Gina Carano is mundane. She is indeed a fish
out of water and director Steven Soderbergh should be flogged for this gimmicky
casting choice. The only two redeeming qualities of the film is the
cinematography with its vibrant colour palette and the unique score music.
Soderbergh’s artsy action flick flounders because he pays too much attention to
the look of the film and neglects the all important story.
