THE INTERNSHIP
Two
unemployed middle-aged men, faking their way into two internship slots at
Google is a high concept that begs to be made. So it’s no surprise the
filmmakers got Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson to play these two men with the
hopes of emulating the success of Wedding
Crashers (2005). The premise sets up a non-stop flow of jokes and gags as
well as a strategically placed romance. Similar to nearly every film they act
in, Vaughn and Wilson play themselves. This is not necessarily a bad thing because
who wouldn’t want to watch the comical antics of those guys. The supporting
characters are a diverse bunch of conventional nerds. The little insights into
‘Google’ the company are interesting and the movie has a creative ‘end credits’
sequence that is always a treat for movie buffs. Whether The Internship is as good as Wedding
Crashers might be debatable, but it’s certainly a good blend of raunchy
adult humour, charming love story and motivational flick. This is a real
feel-good movie about the triumph of the underdogs.
